Hey I am back after 6 months and I briefley want to say that it’s been a good six months with the highlight being that I saw 37 more concerts at the Hollywood Bowl since my last update May 26. I had allready seen Paul Mc Cartney and the Eagles prior to May 26 but I saw 37 more breaking my record of 36 last year with a total of 39. I also saw two really good concerts at the Gibson Amphitheatre Lynyrd Skynyrd and Heart so I went to a total of 41 concerts this year. If I were to rate the top five it would be 1) Paul Mccartney 2) Heart 3) The Eagles 4) Earth Wind and Fire and 5) Segio Mendes. I went to seven of the eight Wednesday night Jazz shows missing only Lee Ritenour with Dave Grusin and I went to eleven Classical Concerts. The 4th of July show was great as usual. In June the Lakers defeated the Celtics in a brutal 7 game series but A miracle happened on the first of November as the San Franciso Giants won their first World Series since moving to San Francisco in the late 50’s. On July 16 I turned 47 and had a good birthday as I was taken out for several nice dinners by family and friends. I have not been working much but I have had a few jobs in the last six months including a part in a Comcast Commercial. On Aug. 21 I celebrated my Mom’s birthday by going with her to the Hollywood Bowl to see the Tchaikovsky with Fireworks concert at Hollywoiod Bowl. MY Brother turned 45 in June and My Dad turned 73 in October. So far it’s been a disapppointing season for my Tennessee Vols who are only 3-6 and a great Highlight of my summer came on Sept. 9 when I got a chance to interview UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel at UCLA. I have not been going to UCB or I.O. that much but I did enjoy watching Freedom Snatch at I.O. a week ago Thursday. I may return to the UCB Jam on November 22 and I was able to Jam once at the new T.N.T. in North Hollywood once this summer. All in all it’s been an interesting 6 months. I saw John Williams at the Hollywoiod Bowl for the 14th time and have had an okay 6 months since my last update.
Hey Guys just briefley I want to say that I will be doing a show with Eric Edelstein at the UCB Saturday Night in Derek Waters presents L.O.L. at 11;55 pm. We will be doing a scene from autofocus and it will be directed by Craig Anstett. Go Celtics let’s close it out against the Magic tonight. Big choke by the Celtics failing to finish the sweep Monday Night allthough it was a good night for me as Eric took me out for a great meal at Ro Ro’s. I am getting really fired up about this year’s season at the Hollywood Bowl. Less than 3 weeks until I see Sting and Just a little over 3 weeks until the L.A. Phil season opens June 18 ( Carla Snowden’s birthday ). I may also go to see Cicago with the Doobie Brothers that same week at Gibson amphitheatre. We are trying to get a 4 pack of tickets for only 69 dollars. I have bought 42 L.A. Phil Events so far breaking my record of 41 last year and of course I have allreday seen Paul Mc Cartney ( Awesome ) and the Eagles ( Great) and will of course be seeing Sting which is also not a La Phil concert so my total iis actually 45 and still growing. I can’t wait until July when I will be going at least 3 or 4 nights a week until the season ends in September. Craig said that ZZ Top is opening for Tom Petty in October and that would be great too. I don’t have my ticket yet but hopefully I can get one in July when I have a little more money. I am still waiting to see if I have booked that Jimmy Dean Sausage commercial that I skipped three days of SAG extra work on “Hung” to go on the call back. It doesn’t shoot until the middle of June so I am hoping that I book it. Even if I don’t it is going to be a great summer with my birthday right in the middle ( July 16) and hopefully a Celtics championship.
Happy 36th Birthday Skyler Payne and it’s been exactly 30 years since the release of ” The Empire Strikes Back.” Oh 1980 what a year. The year before I graduted from Hillwood High School in Nashville Tennessee and the year of the famous Hockey game at Lake Placid between the USA and Russia. Last Sunday my sister Katie graduated froim college and we went to the great restaurant in Pasadena Porto Allegre, It was also the 30 year anniversary of Magic Johnson’s great game 6 at Philadelphia ( May 16 , 1980 ). Hollywood Bowl Season really kicks off in July as I will be going to concerts oin every tuesday Wednesday and Thursday starting July 6 ( That idiot George W. Bush’s 64th birthday.) Until then I will be seeing Sting on June 15 at the Bowl and Opening Night at the Bowl June 18. I will aslo be going to the Bowl’s Fourth of July shows both July 3 and 4. So far I have been to 2 Concerts at the Bowl this year ( Paul Mc cartney and the Eagles ) and I have bought 43 more which means that I have allready broken my record of 42 concerts bought last year with 45 this year. I plan to add at least 5 more durring the season which will bring my total to 50 or more. Last year I went to 36 of the 42 shows that I bought so I think I can surpass that total this year. I can’t wait for the season to get in to full swing. I was born in L.A. but I want the Celtics to go all the way preferably in a sweep or 5 games in the Finals so I don’t have to miss game 6 when I go to see Sting. I have allreday seen Sting with the Police 4 times and at least 4 more times I have seen Sting solo so this will be at least the 9th time that I have seen Sting. I am just trying to get throug the month of May. Losing those 3 days on “Hung” really hurt but hopefully I will book that Jimmy Dean commercial. The Hollywood Bowl Frickin rules but I am not crazy about the show on my birthday July 16 Bugs Bunny at the Symphony. I wanted to go to Disneyland on my Birthday but I don’t think they have that deal where you get in free on your birthday anymore. Maybe there will be something going on at the Orange County Fair on July 16. I know my friend Eric Edelstein will wnat to do something on my birthday becasue that is the kind of friend that he is.That is unless he has to go out of town to film something. Thank God for my Mom and Brother.
Just a quick update. I was able to camp out at the Hollywood Bowl for the third straight year and I added 43 shows to the 2 that I have gone to allready ( Paul Mc cartney and the Eagles). I am really excited about seeing Sting with the Royal Philharmonic Symphony on June 15 which could also be the night of game 6 of the 2010 NBA Finals if the series goes that long. Hopefully The Celtics will sweep the Finals and I will not have to worry about missing game 6. It also would be cool if the Celtics clinched the Championship that night so I can celebrate with my man Sting. Tonight is the third straight night that James Taylor has played along with Carole King at the Hollywood Bowl. I did not go last night since I did not have a ticket but I was considering trying to get one from a scalper when my Brother Scott invited me out to an Italian Restaurant called Antonios. I had Linguini with clams and some excellent Pizza. Some of you may have heard that I had to give up 3 days of SAG Extra Work on the HBO show ” Hung” since one of the days conflicted with a call back that I had for a Jimmy Dean Sausage commercial. Shit why do all my jobs and auditions seem to come on the same days. I sure hope I book that commercial or I gave up 3 days on “Hung” for nothing. Tommorow my sister Katie graduates from college in Claremont and we are all going to my favorite restaurant Porto Allegre for Dinner. Some of the concerts that I will be going to at the Bowl this tear include Harry Connick Jr. Sergio Mendes and Earth Wind and Fire. It is going to be a great summer
I am back after over two weeks and I mainly want to talk about the Eagles concert that I saw on Friday April 16. It was pretty awesome. Paul Mccartney is a tough act to follow considering that I thought his concert which I also saw at the Hollywood Bowl was the best that I have ever seen. The Eagles are pretty amazing considering that they have four lead singers in Glenn Frey , Don Henley , Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt. Only the Beatles are the other Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group that I can think of that have four lead singers. I love the Timothy B. Schmidt song I Can’t Tell you Why and I was very glad that they played it. A nice surprise was all of the solo hits that Joe Walsh performed including Funk # 49 which I was really surprised that he played. I am really happy that I have started my Bowl season earlier than ever before this year . I plan to go to over 50 concerts at the Bowl this year And Thanks to Eric Edelstein and Rob Reinis I have two in the book and it is only April 20th. The earliest I had everr started my season was May 28, 2008 when I saw another awsesome concert my favorite band the Police. That year I went to 35 concerts at the Bowl even though That was the summer that I broke my wrist. Last year I topped it with 36 but this year I hope to shatter the record with over 50. I might go to James Taylor and Carole King. My friend Robin Ruzan is a big James Taylor fan and Carole King too but I think she might have to miss it because of her busy schedule. Me on the other hand have plenty of time since nobody wants to hire me as an actor or even as an extra right now. I am not sure what my future on the Blondell Leggett show is at www.theroomlive.com I have missed the last couple of shows because they cut it down from an hour to 44 minutes. I hope they occasionally ask me to do the show but it looks like I am no longer a regualr on the show. I might possibly be doing another internet sports show with Hal Rudnick but we don’t know yet. Unfortunately the show with my name in it ” Live Without Chuck Ford ” has been cancelled. I won’t say who me and Hal might be doing the show for but I sure hope it happens. I am not sure If I will ever be on the Blondell Leggett show ever again. They have not contacted me to tell me anything so I may be off the show for good. Anyway it was fun while it lasted. I met a lot of cool people and though I hope I still get a chance to do it again they may be going in a different direction. Well Thanks to Jay and Brian for having me as long as they did.
Well it’s been five days since I saw the best concert I have ever seen in My Life Paul Mc Cartney at the Hollywood Bowl on March 31 , 2010. My friend Eric Edelstein got me the ticket and I am very thankfull to him. Eric’s Dad flew down here from Portland , Oregon to see the show. I was thinking wow that’s a long way to go just to see a concert. Eric went to Mc Cartney the first of two nights that he played the Hollywood Bowl ( Tuesday March 30 , 2010 ). Eric said that Mc Cartney was the best show he had ever seen in his life but I still wasn’t sure. Eric’s incredible generosity was shown when he bought a single ticket for me from a guy who had put an add on Craig’s list. Sometimes it is really hard to sell a single ticket and I know that from experience. Recently I had a 55 dollar ticket to a UCLA Basketball game and had to eat it because nobody would buy it. Usually people want at least two seats together but me being very confident in myself I don’t have to have somebody to go with. I am completely happy going to a show by myself. Last year of the 36 concerts that I saw at the Hollywood Bowl I probably went to about 30 by myself. Unbelievably Eric was able to get the ticket from the Guy on Craig’s list for only 40 dollars cash. The face value of the tickety was 75 dollars so we got an unbelievable deal. Eric’s tickets for him and his Dad were almost 500 dollars for the pair. Near the end of the Concert I sneaked down to the area where Eric’s seats had been the night before to get a closer view of Mc Cartney. The Fireworks which were shot off while Mc Cartney played Live and Let Die were great. After the concert was over I got Eric a really nice Paul Mc Cartney T-Shirt to say thanks for giving me a ticket to the best concert that I have ever seen. I am very happy for Eric’s Dad since he flew all the way from Portland, Oregon to see the show. Mc Cartney opened the show by playing Venus and Mars / Rockshow as Eric’s Dad and Tommy O’ rourke predicted. Strangely even though Tommy and his girlfriend Kellen had bought their tickets a long time ago the seat that I got from the guy on Craig’s list was only about ten feet away from where Tommy and Kellen were sitting. Tommy also thinks that it was the best concert that he has ever seen. Besides the Concert it was a good week for me since Butler beat Michigan State who knocked out my Tennessee Volunteers. I usually root against Michigan State no matter who they are playing and it made me sick that they ended the best tournament run that the Vols have ever had by one point. I feel really bad that Desean Butler of West Virginia blew out his knee against Duke even though I was kind of rooting for Duke. Duke looks so good I can’t see Butler beating them unless they pull a miracle. Other than a couple of trips to the Pita Kitchen not much else has been going on in the last week. I will try to be better about updating my Blog. Hopefully I will be back tommorow with my thoughts on whoever wins the Championship game tonight Duke vs. Butler. Otherwise I am happy to announce that the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Dodgers today 8-5 in the season opener for both teams. Now I will turn my attention to the San Francisco Giants who play their opener against Houston in Houston. It will be a match up of two great pitchers. Tim Lincecum of the Giants vs. Roy Oswalt of the Astros. Go Ginats. Anyway before the Giants vs. Astros game is over they will tip off the Final game in Indianapolis between Butler and Dukeat about 6;15 pm pst.. The Giants vs. Astros game satrted at 4 pm pst so it could possibly be over by 6 pm pst but could last until 7 pm pst or even later. That is the great thing about Baseball. No Clock so every game is different. You have to get 27 outs to win a game whether the game lasts 2 hours or much more .
Well I am really disappointed for Tennesee and Kentucky but I got good news and then even better news today. First I heard from Jay Leggett that we will be doing our www.theroomlive.com shows again after a two week layoff but then I found out that I can not do the show this week because Eric edeltein gave me a ticket to go see Paul Mc cartney at the Hollywood Bowl March 31 this Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Unbelievable generosity by Mr. Edelstein combined with the good news that Leggett and Blondell will be back on the air also Wednesday at 8pm. Hopefully I will be back in the room with Blondell and Leggett on April 7 the following Wednesday. April 14 marks exactly six months that we have been on the air
Hey I just thought I would briefly talk about how excited I am about Tennesse’s run to the Elite 8. I am also excited about Kentucky who I think will go all the way but if Tennessee plays Kentucky I will be for Tennessee. I had an unforgettable 4 years at the University of Tennesee in Knoxville. That is where I got in the best physical shape of my life and felt better than I have ever felt in my life. Tonight I will go see my friend Rob Reinis in God Squad at Improv Olympic. It will be nice to get out of my apartment and see some friends and see a good show. AS I am writing this Butler is leading Kansas State going for the first of four Final Four spots. The next game is Kentucky vs. West Virginia. I really like both of these teams but I am going for Kentucky. I am also a West Virginia fan because that is where one of my heroes Jerry West played his college ball. Jerry West has allways treated me with respect but Kentucky is in the S.E.C. and I am a loyal S.E.C. fan. I just love the Vols and loved my time in Knoxville. We used to party all the time and it was great. It will be nice to get my friend Derek Waters back in town next week since he has been in Atlanta shooting a movie with Owen Wilson for the last 6 weeks. I just want to give a shout out to Eric Edelstein who has really become a great friend and is one of the few people that think I am just as funny as Chris Farley. I used to like it when people compared me to him but some people are not very nice and they say that I am nothing compared to Farley. Some jerk who I never met was ripping in to me on the bus saying how much better Farley is than me allthough he has never seen me perform. Chris Farley you were great and rest in Peace but I want too be great too.
I am really enjoying the NCAA tournament and I am rooting hard for Tennessee. I love Peyton Manning and I have to say that even though he lost the Super Bowl I have never enjoyed following an athlete”s career more. I love stats and Manning’s stats are mind boggling. There is only one quarterback that I ever liked more than Peyton and that is Joe Montana. I am also a huge fan of Brett Favre. I really enjoyed going to Soup’s Grill yesterday and watching some of the tournament while having the best Philly Cheese Steak in L.A. I am listening to Neil Young’s greatest Hits which I received in the mail from Amazon.com on St. Patrick’s Day. Last Week I got Crosby Stills Nash and Young’s Deja Vu and 2 CD set of Neil Diamond’s greatest hits. I love getting CD’s in the mail and just yesterday I ordered a 2 CD set of Paul Mc Cartney’s Greatest Hits. I got an e-mail from amazon.com that said it shipped today. Eric Edelstein Loves Neil Young and Crosby Stills and Nash. He got to see Stephen Stills at the Henry Fonda music box last night. Stills is great but I could not go because it was expensive and I wanted to see the Vols play. Fortunately they won
I have not felt much like writing but I will start out with bad news. The roomlive.com show that I am in with jay Leggett and Brian Blondell has shut down for a couple of weeks. The good news is that we will be back March 31 most likely. Just check my facebook status updates and I will let you all know when we will be back on the air. Tommorow is St. Patricks Day and today is my friend Amanda Tate’s Birthday. March 16 has been a big day for me in the past. It marked the first time I ever performed in a Jam at Second City in 2002 and the day that I arrived in Daytona for Spring Break in 1983. I almost feel like going to TNT Jam tonight to celebrate 8 years of Jamming. I will think about it. You know I don’t like to drive and that is why Improv Olympic has taken over as the place I hang out at most. I am still really upset that Second City moved from Melrose to Hollywood Bl. but I just think that Improv Olympic is in a great location for the Metro Red Line Subway and UCB is a pretty long walk from there plus all the shows that I seem to be in at UCB like Jams aren’t over until after midnight making it really hard for me to get home on the Train. I don’t know what I would be doing if Second City was still on Melrose. I loved the Second City on Melrose and it was a Trajedy when they moved to their present site. I think that Josh Funk is doing a good job there but their space is not as good as Melrose was and they all know it but it’s too late to go back. Being next to the Improv was a great place to be. The one good thing about the new Space is that it is only down the block from I.O. I am sure with Josh Funk leading the way they will come back but the move to Hollywood Bl. was a big mistake and that is why most of us who used to go there ( I went there for five years 2002-2006) go other places like the UCB or The I.O. or even Groundlings. I want Second City to come back because I am still loyal to them. I consider myself to be A second City person.
